The Handyman's Pocket Book: Substitute for Oilstone.
A sheet of zinc fastened to a block of wood and fed with fine emery powder and oil makes a good substitute for an oilstone. The zinc should extend over the end of the wood so that it can be tacked down, thus leaving the surface clear of nail or tack heads.
