To prevent tools from rusting, even when stored away for several years, mix together 1 oz. crushed rosin and 2 oz. tallow. Place in a vessel and put latter into a container of hot water. Stir the rosin - tallow thoroughly and apply whist the mixture is warm.
Another mixture is beeswax or paraffin wax shredded into turpentine or white spirit. Heat the mixture over a bowl of hot water (not a naked flame) to quicken the process. When cold the mixture should be a thin paste but not runny. Warm slightly and apply with a brush.
