The Handyman's Pocket Book: Razor Hone Dressing.

Rouge powder shaken into molten beeswax and stirred thoroughly gives bite to a strop, but should not be used too freely as it may coarsen the edge.  Roll the wax into a ball as it cools and rub on to the strop.  Another and finer dressing is made from powdered burnt cork mixed with tallow.
