The Handyman's Pocket Book: Cleaning Hands After French Polishing.
A solution of washing soda and warm water will remove french polish and varnish from the fingers. It is a help also to rub with a piece of pumice stone. Some men also add a little borax to the soda water. It is much cheaper to use the above than methylated spirits.
