The Handyman's Pocket Book: Coal Dust Briquettes
If you have a great deal of coal dust you can make briquettes from it which will burn quite well in a stove. Mix together 8 parts coal dust with 1 part cement. Add enough water to make a fairly dry mix (you will soon find from experience the quantity you need) and pack into a flower pot. Turn the later upside-down on a board and release, thus making "pies" much as a child makes sand pies. Leave for a few days to harden and they are ready to burn. The pot should be of a size that the briquettes will go easily into the stove, and the briquettes should be turned out on a board which can be moved as a whole, because they must not be disturbed until the cement has set.
