I half remember a movie quote, I think it was spoken by Paul Newman, and there's a possibility I may have imagined it.
It goes something like this:
A man falls from the top of a 100 story building.
As he passes an open window on the 50th floor he is heard to say, "So far, so good".

I started using that phrase back in the '70's only I used the starting point as a 12 story building.
I don't know where I picked it up but it struck me as funny. It came to mind every time I pushed the throttles up for take off.
It was used a lot in the cockpit by pilots that understood the fickleness of fate. It did not lend comfort or inspire confidence.
The last time I used it was Tuesday.
