Hyacinth News.

Carrying on from the post Some of My Best Friends Are Plants, here's an update on the hyacinth situation.
It now looks like this:
It smells great!
In the next hyacinth post I'll present a full cost/benefit analysis.

The biggest problem with hyacinths is that they all think they are supposed to be like giraffes. Long necks you see.. Yours is the cutest individual I've ever seen.

I know that sparse watering of the ones bought from the shop is good to keep them smallish, but never seem such a prudent one like yours!

And yes, the fragrance is divine. For me, it is The scent of Yuletide, since it is the favorite flower of that time here in Finland.

I'm very happy with this specimen.
Linda purchased another from a local store similar to your description.

I'm not an expert you understand but I have the feeling it's size may have something to do with the 13 weeks it spent in complete darkness.
The root system is very large in comparison to the shop bought example.

I may start a new subject "Ignorant Botany"

Apparantly when I was a wee todler, I ate a Hyacinth Bulb and had to whisked off to A&E in the middle of the night!

I still have a tendency to eat things at all hours which is why I'm so "bulbous" now...
