Up The City Folk Club.

I've been involved with the City Folk Club in Chichester, first as a player then as M.C., for longer than I care to remember.
I could go into a long explanation of what I consider to be 'folk music' but it really just boils down to this, folk playing music.

Here are three examples that give a flavour of the range of different styles of music you could expect to hear on any given Friday night at the club.

No. 1:
Bill 1.1 singing the song 'Geordie':

No. 2:
Lucy and Paul (the greatest Jazz singers you'll never hear) sing the Everly Brothers' 'Take a Message to Mary':

No. 3:
Loveable scamps Brenda and Berry play 'As Time Goes By' on the Starship Enterprise console:

And it still only costs £2

I should have posted my annual portrait picture on the 20th of January.
But I was very busy and didn't get round to it.
(And I didn't have a suitable picture.)

For several reasons (five of them cardboard) I visited London a couple of weeks ago and was invited by Mr. Frank Key to 'sit in' and wallow at the cerebral oasis that is the "Hooting Yard On The Air" experience.

On a whim I decided to try and re-create the album cover of Bongo Fury (Zappa/Beefheart/Mothers).
Sadly there wasn't a table.
Mr. Key is a little camera-shy so I provided him with a suitable cardboard disguise:
I wish I had a pair of bongos...

What Ever Happened To "The Future" ?

And while I'm on the subject, where's my bloody jet pack?

This Is For...

This is for
Any observer who,
Having observed what they observed,
Observed to be less observant
In the future.

This is for
Whoever invented the light-bulb
That, having been switched on,
Made the room darker.
Do not engender darkness

This is for
Anyone who ever uses the phrase
"I used to be..."

Let me tell you...

I used to be the Emperor of the Universe.
I lived in a golden palace on Mars.
I sat on a throne made from
The bones of the enemies
I had slain in battles across the surfaces
Of one hundred different planets.

(I ate the rest of them...)

When I arose from my throne of bones
One million Heros of the Cosmos
Prostrated themselves before me
And wept bitter tears.

When I arose from my throne of bones
Six million Venusian Lizard Women
Fell to their knees wailing
"You are The One and Only One and we will die for you"

But right now.
Right here and now
What I am
Is a minimum wage slave
In the belly of the Black Rubber Beelzebub
Who lives in a big metal tower
In the kingdom of soil.
While his agent,
The Underground Pig Detector,
Roams abroad in this land.

Older listeners might be tempted to turn this off as it's Hippity Hoppity/(c)Rap noise.
Please try to stick with it as it's alarmingly accurate in it's observations (and very funny).

Undue Influence.

Mr. Glyn Webster of the Pavilion of Innocent Pastimes writes:

"You have inspired me. I now know what it is that I was put on this Earth to do".
To illustrate his enlightenment Mr. Webster sends me this picture:
Excelsior to you Mr. Webster!
